SKYWEB ALLIANCE PARTNERS CHOOSE AXXCELERA PLATFORM TO DEPLOY BROADBAND WIRELESS SERVICES
Choice of AB-Access™ Solution Further Validates formation of SkyWeb Alliance, First Unveiled in March of this Year Washington, D.C., July 9, 2003 - SkyWeb Alliance partners NextWeb and SkyPipeline announced today they have selected Axxcelera Broadband Wireless as their preferred solution provider for high-speed Internet services based on Axxcelera's point-to-multipoint AB-Access fixed broadband wireless platform. The announcement was made today at the Wireless Communications Association International (WCA) 2003 industry conference here. SkyWeb Alliance partners NextWeb and SkyPipeline operate fixed broadband wireless Internet services using primarily unlicensed spectrum, and boast service areas that cover some of the most lucrative markets for broadband Internet service in all of California, indeed in the entire United States. Through a ground-breaking Inter-carrier agreement the companies are cooperating on joint marketing and sales, as well as developing and exchanging "best practices" in their emerging field of fixed broadband wireless. Now, the partners have jointly chosen a vendor to supply a good portion of the infrastructure they will need to meet the tremendous growth they expect in their markets over the next 12 to 18 months. "Recent industry news continues to underscore the fact that delivering Internet service to business customers using fixed broadband wireless is a win-win for business customers, and for the companies providing the service," said Graham Barnes, CEO of NextWeb. "The formation of the SkyWeb Alliance was a watershed for the industry, and now to come out with our selection of a strategic solutions vendor, Axxcelera, further demonstrates the forward momentum that this industry is experiencing. We are thrilled to make this announcement, and compliment Axxcelera on the flexibility and suitability of their platform to our needs." The partners chose the Axxcelera AB-Access platform because it provided the best combination of performance and flexibility for their needs. The AB-Access solution consists of both wireless access points (WAPs) and subscriber units (SUs), purpose-built for deployment by wireless service providers such as SkyPipeline and NextWeb. The product supports a large number of customers per access point, operating in the data ranges typical for small to medium businesses, and uses proprietary techniques to optimize bandwidth utilization. "We evaluated a number of the leading solutions in the industry, and in the end Axxcelera exceeded our expectations both in terms of the feature set and cost-effectiveness in deployment," said Ryan Blair, SkyPipeline CEO. "For emerging companies such as SkyPipeline and NextWeb a decision such as this has as much - or more - importance as it does for a large service provider, so we had to choose very carefully. Not only was the AB-Access solution the right one, in our evaluation, but Axxcelera is one of the most responsive and flexible vendors we have ever worked with. We are pleased to be able to co-announce this selection with our partner, NextWeb." Axxcelera, a Moseley company, in November 2001 purchased the fixed broadband wireless product line of Adaptive Broadband, a pioneering provider of fixed broadband wireless solutions. Since then, the company has marketed the products to new and existing customers, and has also made enhancements to the AB-Access product line. Axxcelera recently announced its AB-Full Access solution, an advanced point-to-point broadband wireless system which provides high capacity transmission for Wide Area Network (WAN) and Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) environments. "SkyPipeline and NextWeb showed great vision when they first formed the SkyWeb Alliance earlier this year, and we were excited to be given the opportunity to become a solution provider to these Alliance partners," said Jamal Hamdani, President and CEO of Axxcelera. "We are excited they have chosen the Axxcelera AB-Access solution as the strategic deployment platform for their leading-edge Internet services. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the SkyWeb Alliance partners."
